2004 Single Family Residence up to 2,000 Sq. Ft. up to $200,000

Energy Efficient, High Performance homeFree flowing interior spaces transform a three-bedroom ranch into an empty-nester’s retreat.   Absence of a formal living room fit the informal style of the home and the owners’ desire for a comfortable great room.  The center of the home features an open design combining the living room, dining room and kitchen into one large, interactive space. Between the rooms is a cleverly constructed three-sided zero-clearance fireplace with built-in display niche.  A cathedral ceiling and loft span both the kitchen and dining area. The loft creates a bright, airy atmosphere and the oak railings add an element of safety to the space.  Columns buried within the walls house sconce lighting.  To carry the load of the loft area and roof, a central support system consisting of micro-lam beams, was incorporated into the design.

Within the third bedroom, tucked away from the rest of the home, workout equipment and an entertainment center provide stark contrast to the black spiral staircase.  The staircase provides a dramatic access to the loft without sacrificing floor space.   On the curving rail was a sign posted by the owner’s grandsons: “NO GROWN-UPS ALLOWED.”
