At Hanover Homes North We Knew Then What The Big Boys Know Now!
February 15th, 2011
High-performance, energy efficient, Green, sustainable construction—call it whatever you want. We knew all along that it was something of extreme value to our customers. As I recently read in several national newspapers, the “Big Boys” have finally discovered the key to building technologically superior homes. KB Home—one of the nation’s largest builders— Pulte, Meritage and other national builders have announced that they will be producing energy efficient homes beginning over the next several months.
We are light-years ahead of these home builders since we have been building our homes for at least the past decade to the Energy Star® standards which they are now just discovering. Recently, we decided to have our homes certified to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Star program criteria which evaluates how energy efficient our homes are as compared to their Home Energy Rating System (HERS). The HERS score (the lower the score, the better) rates the energy efficiency and projects the utility costs. We have consistently scored at 40 to 65 on their scale. This is 35% to 60% more efficient than houses built to code. Existing homes built fifteen or more years ago generally score at 130 which means that our homes are more than twice as energy efficient.
A foreclosed home may cost less upfront; however, chances are you will pay double the utility costs forever. Look for our “Energy Performance Guide” which we will feature on all of our new homes.

Super Bowl Sunday Lessons:
February 1st, 2011
1. Don’t ask which teams are playing: All you'll get is some eye rolling and a few groans. (By the way, this year the Steelers and Packers will play in the Cowboys Stadium in Texas.)
2. Don't interrupt those watching the game unless the house is burning down.
3. Timing is everything! Attend the Lackawanna Home Builders Home and Lifestyle Show at the Scranton Ice Box. The show starts Friday night February 4th and ends on Sunday, Feb. 6th, with plenty of time to make it to a Super Bowl bash, a tailgate, or back in front of your flat screen TV.
4. Be in the right place at the right time. Stop by the Hanover Homes North display. Check out our newest home designs, kitchens, and recently constructed niche project—a tall timbered hunting lodge whose fieldstone fireplace and beamed ceiling that will surely appeal to your inner wild side!

TWO STORY YORKTOWN GETS RAVE REVIEWS
December 31st, 2010
Beautiful new two-story completed in Luzerne County. Passed Energy Star guidelines with flying colors.
Just prior to the Owners moving in a Blower Door test was completed by Peter Vargo of Nu Tech Energy Solutions. Blower door tests measure the tightness of a building envelope. A tight home results in substantial energy/utility cost savings keeping warm air in during the winter and cooler air in the summer. The results were excellent. Mr. Vargo commented "without any formal statistics to compare to, the blower door number was in the 90th percentile of the hundreds of stick frame, batt insulated homes I have tested. I was very pleased and impressed as there was no extraordinary effort on Hanover's part to tighten up the home beyond their standard building practice. To have a builder achieving these numbers is very impressive to say the least."

Today's home buyers want their homes to be comfortable and energy efficient at the same time. Seeking a retreat from the world many buyers like the timeless appeal of the farmhouse design with it's front porch charm that points to the past. But flexible interior space planning adds a sense of discovery, of excitement to yesterday's farmhouses.
Below find a Farmhouse design home recently constructed in Blue Heron Woods, Wayne County.
